2.4 PLASTIC MATERIALS
2.4.1 Ceneral
Plastic materials used in tap components shall he of a type recommended by the polymer manufacturer as suitable and appropriate for use in the rnanufcture of the tap component or otherwise demonstrate suitabilit. Characteristics to be taken into account shall
include compatibility and resistance to variations in water quality and elevated temperatures.
2.4.2 Acetal
Acetal plastics used for structural components that are in contact with the water supply shall be copolymer.
2.5 PLASTIC AND ELASTOMERIC MATERIALS
2.5.1 LV resistance
The materials of plastics components that are designed to be exposed to direct sunlight. when installed, shall not crack, craze or exhibit signs of any defect when tested in accordance with AS 3558.5.
2.5.2 Resistance to chemical degradation
When tested in accordance with the requirement of Clause 4.2. plastic-bodied taps shall comply with following:
(a) Upon completion of the exposure period, samples shall show no cracking. crazing or surface degradation visible to the naked
eye.
(b) Upon completion of the exposure period and subsequent short-term endurance test. samples shall comply with the requirements of Clauses 4.3 (hydraulic strength of plastic-bodied tap assembly) and Clause 4.5 (watertightness under pressure).
