AS/NZS 4455:1997 pdf download.Masonry units and segmental pavers.

The method for determining unconfined compressive strength is given in AS/NZS 4456.4. The method for demonstrating compliance is

given in Appendix A.

NOTES:

1 Hollow and cored units having a characteristic unconlined compressive strength of at least 3 MPa and solid units having a

characteristic unconfined compressive strength of at least 2.5 MPa are usually suitable for lightly loaded walls (e.g. carrying

roof loads).

2 The New Zealand concrete masonry industry currently uses the compression test method given in AS/NZS 4456.4 to demonstrate that

payers mcci NZS 3116 compliance. This procedure will be replaced over time with the requirements of Clause 2.4.

2.4 BREAKING LOAD The method for determining breaking load is given in ASJNZS 4456.5. The method for demonstrating compliance is

given in Appendix A.

NOTE: A characteristic breaking load of 2 kN is generally suitable for residential pedestrian applications. A value of 5 kN or more is generally suitable for residential vehicular applications. Higher strengths may he required for other applications.
