Three elements are essential to an efficient program. These are thorough and frequent vacuuming, immediate spot removal and surface cleaning, and corrective or restorative cleaning to a detailed plan.
NOTE: Appendix A lists some common household chemicals which may damage carpets.
2.1.2 Frequent cleaning Dry soil removal in accordance with Clause 5.3 is recommended at frequencies as suggested in Table 2.1.
Thorough vacuum cleaning using several passes removes most loose soil.
NOTE: Appendix B provides guidance on the removal of stains from carpets.
2.1.3 Surface cleaning Surface cleaning in accordance with Clause 5.4 is recommended on a weekly, monthly or on-occasion basis.
Methods include the aerosol spray system. the bonnet cleaning system, the liquid shampoo and dry foam systems (followed by wet
vacuum), and the absorbent compound minimum inoisure system (commonly called powder cleaning system).
NOTE: In public and commercial buildings. surface cleaning is only acceptable when it is carried out between planned corrective or restorative cleaning and not as a substitute for corrective or restorative cleaning.
