Section 2 Acquisition

2.1 General

2.1.1 All security dogs All security dogs shall —

(a) be aged at least 18 months and have sufficient mental and physical maturity for the activities in which they are engaged;

(b) demonstrate high level prey and hunt drive, endurance and a willingness to search;

(c) be motivated to work through distraction;

(d) be physically fit and environmentally bold or at least sound (e.g. willing to forge through scrub, work at heights, work at

night, work in proximity to other stimulus such as people and other dogs); and

(e) be of stable, even temperament and display no aggression to other people or dogs. NOTE Hreed is not relevant where all above

criteria are met.

2.1.2 Security dogs (detection)

Security dogs (detection) shall —

(a) be aged at least 12 months before being deployed; and

(b) avoid strenuous physical impact if aged less than 18 months.
