1.5 DEFINITIONS
For the purpose of this Standard, the definitions below apply.
1.5.1 Air-filled porosity
The percentage of air, by oIume. in a potting mi.x after it has been watered and drained under standard conditions.
1.5.2 Batch
A limited quantity of product which is made in one cycle o manufacture and is uniform w itli respect to starting materials,
composition and method of manufacture.
1.5.3 Putting mis
A growing medium suitable for the establishment and deselopment of a wide range of plants in containers.
1.5.4 Premium potling mis
A potting mix complying with the requirements in Table 2.1 of’ this Standard. Most particularly, its soluble nitrogen content and low ability to dcprisc plants of soluble nitrogen enable it to sustain good plant growth for at least a month without added
fertilizers if the use of the mix is commenced within 2 months of manufacture. Its nutrient Ies’els. water holding capacity and
wettability arc superior to those of a regular grade mix.
1.5.5 Primary package
Any form of packaging material. i.e. any packet. enselope. box, bag or the like, which is in intimate contact with the product.
1.5.6 kcgular potting mis
A potting mix with properties as defined in Table 2.1 of this Standard and requiring the use of a balanced fertilizer from the time of potting.
