1.3.1 Aluminium substrates

Aluminium or aluminium alloy products in the form of sheet, coil, cut lengths. strip or extruded sections.

1.3.2 Chemical conversion treatment

Modification to an aluminium surface by an appropriate chemical process.

1.3.3 Powder-coated aluminium

Pretreated aluminium finished with a powder coating.

1.3.4 Pretreatcd aluminium

Aluminium substrate to which an appropriate chemical conversion treatment has been applied.

1.3.5 Significant surface

That part of the surface which is required to be covered by the coating, and which is essential to the appearance and

serviceability of the item. The significant surface does not include edges, deep recesses and secondary surfaces.

1.4 SERVICE CONDITION CATE;ORIES

This Standard specifies three service condition categories for powder-coated aluminium, based on the severity of the environment, as follows:

Category 3: Exterior mild to moderate—suitable for use in rural, urban, light industrial and mild marine environments.

Category 4: Tropical

Category 5: Exerior severe—suitable for use in either of the following environments:

(a) Industrial

(b) Coastal marine.
