2.2 Special service conditions

When high-voltage switchgear and controlgear may be used under conditions different from the normal service conditions given in 2.1, the user’s requirements should refer to standardized steps as follows.

2.2.1 Altitude

For installation at an altitude higher than 1 000 m, the insulation level of external insulation under the standardized reference

atmospheric conditions shall be determined by multiplying the insulation withstand voltages required at the service location by a

factor Ka in accordance with figure 1.

NOTE 1 Fot ntrn ènsulation, the d.lectflc characterishcs are d•ntical at any altitude and no special precautions need to be taken. For external and lnteinal nsulatlon. see IEC 80071-2.
