3TERMS AND DEFINITIONS

For the purposes of this Standard, the following lermsand definitiors apply.

3.1

senisor: primary elernent of a neasuring chain that con-verts the input variable into a signal suitable for measurement.

3.2

signal converter: device that changes a signal into a differ-eril signal, the physical nature of the ouipui being thesame as that

of the input.

3.3

measuring transdlucer transmitter: device that acceptsinformalion in the form of a physical or chenical vari-able and converts it

to an output variable of the sameor another nature, according to a definitc law.

3.4

deiecior: device thai accepis infornrtatior in the forrn ofa physical or chemical variable and transmits a binarysignal at a

specificd condition, cf. mcasuring transduacer(3.3).

3.5

indicator: device that shows the presence or absence of a phenomenon such as pressure, flow, and position or state, but which does not mcasure it.
