6 SHANK LENGTH

Shank length includes the chamler to the underside 04 the eve ring for plain pattern (straight shank) and to the labled collar for shoulder pattern eyebolts.

7 MATERIAL

7.1 Carbon and Alloy Steel Forged

The material and mechank’al property requirenwnts for general purpose carbon steel eycbofts shall be In accordance with ASTM A4119. Eyebolts requiring improved toughness or intended primarily for temperature apphcation.s to —40F (—40C) shall be in accordance with ASTM FM1. ASTM A489 and AS1M F541 vebolts shall be capable of meeting the rated capacities of Tables 3 and 4,

7.2 Corrosion-Resistant Steel Forged

When corrosion-resistant steel is required refer to ASTM A473. alloy types 304. 304L or 316. and 316L Eyebolts 04 AS1M A473

materials shall be capable of meeting the rated capacities 04 Tables 3 and 4. The allay type as listed in A5TM A473 shall be marled on the eyebolt eye.

7.3 Other Materials

When other materiab arc required. the material shall be as agreed upon by the purchaser and supplier.

8 FINISH

8.1 Steel

8.1.1 Unless otherwise spedlied bolts shall be supplied with a natural (as prccesscd) finish. unplated or uncoated, in a clean condition, and lightly oiled.

8.1.2 When zinc plating is specified. ASTM F1941 shall be designated. Other finishes may be used based on an agreement between the punthaser and supplier. (This is not recommended see para. C-7 in Nonmandatory Appendix C-)

8.2 Corrosion-Resistant Steels

Conosion-resistant steels shall be passivatcd in accordance with ASTM A380.
